About Richard


This site contains the ramblings of Richard Mortimer the chief geek of the Mortimer family. There are no set topics that are discussed on these pages although you will find that most relate to Computers, the sport of rowing and photography. Richard is married to his wonderful wife, Debbie, and has two children.

Education & Career History

Richard has a M.Eng. in Computer Systems and Software Engineering from the University of York and a PhD. in Software Engineering from Durham University.

After completing his PhD. Richard worked for Sun Microsystems (now part of Oracle) for a number of years. Working as a Staff Engineer in the Network Products Group and latterly in the Volume Products Group he was responsible for various firmware, operating system, switching and system management software components on a wide variety of platforms from fault tolerant servers to blade server systems.

After leaving Sun Richard joined ESB New Technology working on first generation mobile phone Business to Business applications. Following that Richard worked for Newcastle based financial consultancy Scott Logic Limited. Richard is currently a director of 1-2-Mobile Limited working on mobile Business to Business applications within a number of service industries.

Hobbies and Other Interests

A keen rower in his late teens and twenties Richard now devotes much of his spare time into rowing administration and is also a qualified British Rowing National Umpire. A member of Durham Amateur Rowing Club Richard is also Entries Secretary of and a director of Durham Regatta one of the most prestigious Regattas in the North of England.
